The Workmate 225 might be what's missing from your home shop. Its versatility makes it an especially ideal choice for those with limited shop floor space: Use it as a workbench, a bench tool stand, a vise, or a sawhorse; when the job's done, you can quickly break it down and store it out of the way. (Try that with a regular workbench!) Its portability is no small advantage: essentially, the Workmate lets you move your shop wherever you need it. I, like others reviewing this, wish some of the parts were metal rather than plastic, but so far this hasn't been a problem. It folds up nicely and is sturdy when deployed. Definately more substantial than the cheapy ones that are available.

I owned one of the first workmates to be sold, back in the 1970s. Loaned it to a friend. Stolen from his patio. Friend bought this as a replacement. Compared to the original, this one is lousy. I noticed that some of the glowing reviews referred to buying it long ago. I wonder if their reviews are actually in regard to THIS product, or an earlier sturdier version.
I use it often, and it is helpful, but it is more cheaply made than the original. I doubt is will be worth stealing when it is 25 plus years old. I would buy it again, but wish I had my original back! I was never "careful" with the original, but I find myself unwilling to exert my maximum effort on this tool.

It's pretty sturdy and it's fine for most small jobs. My one complaint is that the stationary-board (The one without the cranks) would not level-up horizontally for anything. Again, a minor issue to most, but major if you are O.C.D. like me.
